Accompanying Persons Programme

Paris is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and June is arguably the best month for visiting. For the accompanying people(not taking part in the conference), all week, different activities may be organized such as a visit to Versailles, the Musée Grévin (French equivalent of Mme Tussaud’s museum in London), shopping in the Gallery Lafayette, boat rides on the seine river, Montmartre, Musée d’Orsay…

There will be a helper available for the duration of the Workshop to help organize your day (bus timetables, price, metro etc…).

Furthermore, included in the registration fee of all participants :

Sunday evening 26 June All Conference Delegates and Accompanying Persons are cordially invited to Cocktails at the Conference SiteNouvelle fenêtre, from 18h00 to 20h00.

Wednesday afternoon 29 June, everyone will have the possibility to go for a visit of Paris. There will be a choice of four different outings, led by members of the Paris lab:

Paris, behind the scenes (Led by Isabelle Trimaille and Emrick Briand). Take a guided tour of the Paris Opera GarnierNouvelle fenêtre that provided much of the inspiration for The Phantom of the Opera, and find out for yourself whether the underground lake is myth or reality. Up to 35 places are available.

Canal St Martin (Led by Jean-Jacques Ganem and Dhafira Benzeggouta). A canal cruise from the Parc de la Villette to the Seine, along the St Martin CanalNouvelle fenêtre - including locks, river ports, and a trip under the Bastille. This visit will be quite different from the Gala Dinner cruise, which also takes place on a boat ... 20 places are available.

Paris Intimate Left Bank (Led by Didier Schmaus and Sebastien Steydli). Take good walking shoes and a brolly in case of a summer shower, and have a walk around the famous Left Bank with a local. Didier has come up with a circuit that, within a relatively small area, will take you through time and cultures, visiting the Sorbonne, the Montagne Sainte Geneviève, a Roman amphitheatre, the Jardin des Plantes, the banks of the Seine, a top floor view over the Seine Islands and Notre Dame, and a special refreshment stop ... Up to 20 places are available.

Arts et Métiers: (Led by Marie D'Angelo and Catherine Deville-Cavellin). Visit the Musée des Arts et MétiersNouvelle fenêtre, the museum of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers. Astounding scientific and technological collections, including the cyclotron of Joliot-Curie, the calculating machines of Blaise Pascal, the airplanes of Blériot and of course Foucault's pendulum. Up to 20 places are available

Wednesday Evening 29 June

After the afternoon visits, everyone will be brought to the edge of the Seine at the Pont de l'Alma to embark on an evening Gala Dinner cruise on the ZouaveNouvelle fenêtre, one of Paris' famous Bateaux Mouches, which we will have all to ourselves. Included in the registration fees, is a sit-down dinner with fine wines and food which will be served inside the boat, accompanied by piano and violin music. During dinner, the views can be enjoyed through the panaoramic windows of the dining room and a fully open top deck is available for an after-dinner stroll to get the best of the sights and sounds from the Seine.
